Established around Gerrard Street in Soho during the 1970s,
London's Chinatown bursts with colour and diversity. Many
traditional restaurants dot the area, including the Feng Shui Inn
at the eastern entrance of Chinatown, as well as numerous souvenir
shops - if you wanted to get hold of a Lucky Cat, this is the place
to come.
Gerrard Street is the principal London location used onscreen in
Sherlock, specifically the eastern end. Other Chinatown parts of
the episode, including the Lucky Cat Emporium, were actually shot
in Newport in Wales.
Chinatown is easily accessible from Leicester Square Underground
station [Northern, Piccadilly].
From any of the station exits, head north up Charing Cross Road,
until you see Newport Court on your left - hand side. Head down and
turn right at the end up Newport Place, past the traditional
Chinese Pagoda. Gerrard Street and the gated entrance to Chinatown
proper will be on your left.
