Located directly in front of the Oxo Tower on the South Bank of
the River Thames, this particular spot of foreshore inbetween two
wooden piers is where the body of the gallery security guard was
found washed up.
Slightly trickier to visit than any other Sherlock location, you
will find this spot is dependent on the tide of the river. Your
first task is to check the tide times for London Bridge, updated
daily here: www.tidetimes.org.uk.
After that, sensible footwear is recommended, certainly not a
pair of Yves Saint Laurent, they will end up ruined! The beach can
be extremely muddy, though covered in shingle which can act as good
stepping stones. Access is achieved by a long, metal stair rail,
which can be slippery depending on the tides.
Once you are down there though, the foreshore affords a unique
perspective on the river, and St Paul's cathedral to the east. With
a little effort, it is well worth a visit.
The nearest tube is Waterloo [Jubilee, Northern, Bakerloo] where
you can simply follow the signs to the South Bank, and having
arrived ensuring you head east past the National Theatre. The Oxo
Tower and the two piers are unmissable. It's well worth combining
with a quick visit to the Skate Park and Hungerford Bridge.
