The plush restaurant where Sherlock and John memorably reunite
in The Empty Hearse is a location of two halves.
For the exterior, the frontage of the exclusive Landmark London
Hotel is used. This 5 star restaurant and hotel is located on
Marylebone Road - a mere stone's throw from the real Baker Street -
and was originally named as the Great Central Hotel when it opened
as a Victorian railway hotel. The hotel has two entrances - the
northern one directly faces Marylebone railway station, reflecting
the building's history, while the southern entrance directly faces
onto Marylebone Road, and is the entrance seen onscreen in
Sherlock.
For the interior, an altogether different location is used - The
Daffodil in Cheltenham. Originally opened as a cinema in 1922, the
restaurant and bar features Art Deco styling and a unique floor
plan thanks to its picture house history. The restaurant itself
occupies the lower level, while bar patrons overlook the space
below from the mezzanine balcony. For plenty more information on
the Daffodil, or to book a table, head to the
restaurant website.
For The Landmark Hotel, the nearest Underground station is
Marlyebone [Bakerloo], directly opposite the hotel.
For The Daffodil, the closest railway station is Cheltenham Spa,
on the Bristol-Birmingham mainline and served by First Great
Western.
