Built between 1971 and 1980, Tower 42 is a multi - tenanted
skyscraper in the financial heart of the City of London. Originally
constructed to house the international division of Natwest bank,
the tower now contains a mix of office and restaurant space. At the
time of its construction Tower 42 was the tallest building in the
United Kingdom, but has now been surpassed multiple times, and with
the completion of The Shard London Bridge it will end up the sixth
tallest building in the country.
If you wished to visit, the lobby of Tower 42 is freely
accessible but access to the upper levels is by appointment only,
so the best bet is to book a table at Rhodes Twenty
Four or the Vertigo 42 Champagne Bar on the very top floor
of the building.
The financial institution of Shad Shanderson in The Blind Banker
is fictitious. All the logos adorning the revolving doors, lobby,
and reception desk of Tower 42 were applied by the production team
for filming, and removed after completion of the episode.
Otherwise, the building is identical to that seen onscreen.
To get to Tower 42, catch the Tube to Liverpool Street [Central,
Circle, Hammersmith and City, Metropolitan] and exit down Old Broad
Street. Tower 42 is unmistakably on your left as you walk down the
street, with the Iconic 30 St Mary Axe, otherwise known as The
Gherkin, visible two streets behind if you stand correctly.
