Interiors for the fictitious West Kensington Library were
actually filmed at the Cardiff Central Library. The fourth building
to bear the name, the current library was opened in March 2009 and
has been designed to be extremely energy efficient, featuring a
sedum grass covered roof to improve insulation and absorb
rainwater, automated solar shading in the windows and a building
management system to allow staff full climate control over each
floor.
The building contains six floors to house approximately 90,000
books and 10,000 CDs and DVDs. The ground floor contains three
restaurants, and all others feature Wi-Fi access for the public.
The third floor is notable for the presence of a grand piano, which
members of the public can play.
Cardiff Central Library is located in the centre of the city,
within easy walking distance of Cardiff Central Railway Station -
simply head right on the north side of the station, along Saunders
Road and onto Mill Lane, and the library will be on your
right.
Please Note that the Library was built after
any imagery on Google Maps or Street View but it is located where
it is shown on the map below.
