Today, Sunday September 23 2012, sees the reveal of the 2012
Primetime Emmy Awards.
After being nominated in a total of thirteen categories,
Sherlock sadly didn't take away any awards from eight eligible
nominations last Saturday at the Craft Awards, but remains
nominated in five categories at tonight's ceremony.
Outstanding Miniseries or Movie
Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia
Lead Actor in a Mini-Series
Benedict Cumberbatch
Supporting Actor in a Mini-Series
Martin Freeman
Outstanding Directing For A Miniseries, Movie Or A
Dramatic Special
Paul McGuigan, Director
Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Dramatic
Special
Steven Moffat
Due to a quirk in the Emmy nomination process, only A Scandal in
Belgravia has been nominated. This is due to Sherlock not featuring
enough episodes to qualify as a Drama Series, but also as it is a
returning series it cannot qualify purely as a Miniseries, and thus
feature all three episodes. Under current Emmy nomination rules,
the only way Sherlock could be submitted for the awards is as a
Movie, and so only one episode was put forward for nomination.
Members of Team Sherlock are currently in Los Angeles to attend
the ceremony, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman,
Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss, Sue Vertue and Paul McGuigan.
The Primetime Emmy Awards are airing live in the United States
on ABC from 20:00EDT/17:00PDT. There is sadly no internet live
streaming of the ceremony itself, though highlight programmes will
be carried in the hours and days afterwards on regional channels
worldwide. We will be updating links to Live Streams of Red Carpet
arrivals through the day over on our
Twitter page.
All that remains to be said is a huge GOOD LUCK to Team Sherlock
at tonight's ceremony!
