Filming completed this weekend on the second block of filming on Sherlock Series Four. The schedule has mostly comprised of shooting on the second episode in the new series. As usual, the episode filmed largely in Wales, based out of the production hub of Pinewood Studios Wales, with a return to London to film around the city as well as shooting on the first Baker Street exteriors at North Gower Street in this series - and in a first for the modern incarnation of the series, the street itself was subject to a full closure for the duration of filming on Sunday 12 June.

Sherlock Series Four Episode Two is directed by Nick Hurran, returning to the series after his Emmy nominated work on S3E3: His Last Vow. The episode is written by Steven Moffat.

Jones -brooke

Joining the cast in the episode is Toby Jones as an interpretation of one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 'finest villains'. Unlike the instant reveal of Lars Mikkelson's role in Series Three, the identity of Jones' character remains unannounced - possibly due to potential plot spoilers that can be derived from just who he is playing. Also new to the Sherlock cast and playing a major role in the episode is Sian Brooke, who reunites with Benedict Cumberbatch after her memorable turn as Ophelia opposite his Hamlet on the London stage last year.

The third and final episode of Sherlock Series Four will shortly begin filming. Jointly written by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, it will be directed by Benjamin Caron. His CV features a dazzling list of credits, including the entire final series of the BBC incarnation of Wallander, starring Kenneth Branagh; two episodes of the forthcoming Netflix drama The Crown; Scott and Bailey for ITV, and Skins for Channel 4. Benjamin also has a superb website that you can check out at, with a far more thorough list of his credits.

The homestretch is now ahead of us, as filming on Sherlock Series Four rattles towards a climax. As usual, no airdate has been announced, but our present theory of the series debuting on January 1 2017 currently remains in place.
