A classic depiction of the British Isles by the Dutch
cartographer Williem Blaeu, a version of this map hangs in the main
lounge of 221B, above a shelved dresser next to the sofa.
The original map was produced in 1635. All of the text is in
Latin, and close examination reveals many of the towns that existed
at the time - it's notable to spot the differences and curious
absences compared to the modern day.
The map is freely available for download on the internet and is no
longer constrained by copyright law. High quality prints are
available for a modest charge, as well as more expensive, engraved
renditions of the map in the region of £1000.
