First produced in 1965, Operation is a battery-operated game of
physical skill designed to test the hand to eye coordination of
players. The UK version of the game as seen on screen in The Empty
Hearse requires players to remove pieces from the 'body' of the
patient depicted on the board without brushing the edges of the
cavity. Any contact causes the patient's prominent nose to light up
red and buzz. The winner of the game is the player with the most
successfully extracted pieces.
Operation remains on sale from toy and game retailers, but is
significantly different visually from the classic version seen on
screen in Sherlock.
