Win tickets to Pope Joan, the new play by Louise Brealey!

***Please note this competition is now closed***

We are delighted to be able offer a pair of tickets on behalf of National Youth Theatre (NYT) for the opening night of Saturday August 31 2013 (or if you prefer an alternative performance date of your choice) to The Legend of Pope Joan, the new play written by Louise Brealey.

Entry to the draw is open worldwide but please be aware that the play takes place at St James' Church in Piccadilly, London so you will need to ensure you can attend. For those who can't we also have two theatrical production programmes for the play signed by Louise herself as a runner up/alternative prize.

The Legend of Pope Joan

A retelling of the medieval legend of Pope Joan, the first and only female to achieve papal status, this is the first play by Louise, beloved by Sherlock fans worldwide as Molly Hooper. Louise had this to say about the experience of writing her first ever play:

"When the NYT asked me to write a play about Pope Joan, my first instinct was to run like the clappers. But the moment I began to read about the Joan legend, I fell in love with the idea of such a woman existing in a world where a woman of any learning was considered a dangerous freak. I wanted to have a stab at telling her story and find out what she might have to say to a 21st century audience. For me it doesn't matter whether Joan really existed. It matters that so many people wanted her to exist. Having read everything there is to read about her, I want her to have existed too. She sounds amazing. MyPope Joan is the story of a lonely, clever, ambitious woman who has more enemies than friends and who risks her life daily for the cause she believes in. She wants to change medieval Christianity, and if she had succeeded, she would have changed the world."
